Alabama has always been shaped by its waterways.
From quiet creeks and winding rivers to wide lakes and scenic paddling routes, water is part of our state’s story, our communities, our recreation, and our economy. For visitors traveling through Northeast Alabama, there is no better time to slow down, get outside, and experience why Alabama is known as “The River State.”
At Greensport RV Park & Marina, located on beautiful Neely Henry Lake in Ashville, Alabama, we are proud to support the work of the Alabama Scenic River Trail and the tourism, education, and outdoor recreation it brings to communities across our state.

Alabama Scenic River Trail: Connecting People to Alabama’s Waterways
The Alabama Scenic River Trail, often called ASRT, works to connect paddlers, travelers, outdoor enthusiasts, and local communities through Alabama’s incredible network of waterways.
Their resources help visitors discover paddling routes, plan outdoor adventures, learn about water recreation opportunities, and better understand the importance of protecting and respecting these natural spaces.
For anyone who loves kayaking, canoeing, paddleboarding, fishing, birdwatching, photography, or simply spending peaceful time outside, ASRT is an incredible resource.

Watch “The River State”
ASRT recently shared “The River State,” an immersive film created to showcase the breathtaking beauty of Alabama’s waterways and the role they play in our recreational communities and local economies.
The film was created by filmmaker Claire Haughey, a 2021 Southern Exposure Fellow, for the Alabama Scenic River Trail. Through stunning visuals and storytelling, the video invites viewers to see Alabama’s rivers, lakes, and paddling opportunities with fresh eyes.
More than just a beautiful film, “The River State” is a reminder of how much adventure exists right here in Alabama — and how important it is to enjoy, support, and protect these waterways for generations to come.

Why Outdoor Tourism Matters
Water recreation does more than give families something fun to do on vacation. It helps support local communities, small businesses, outfitters, restaurants, marinas, campgrounds, tourism organizations, and rural economies. When visitors come to paddle, fish, camp, and explore, they are also supporting the places that make Alabama feel like home.
That is one of the reasons we are thankful for organizations like the Alabama Scenic River Trail and the Alabama Tourism Department. Their work helps shine a light on Alabama’s natural beauty while encouraging responsible recreation, appreciation for our waterways, and new opportunities for communities across the state.
At Greensport, we are passionate about helping to boost rural and outdoor tourism in meaningful ways. We also value the natural resources we can share with others, and strive to keep them naturally beautiful.
